JOSEPH JACOB 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND INFORMATION à â Mangroves are woody plants that develop at the interface among land and ocean. happen worldwide in the tropics and subtropics, for the most part between scopes 25â ° N and 25â ° S. they are salt open minded trees, additionally called halophytes, and are adjusted to life in brutal beach front conditions. They contain an unpredictable salt filtration framework and complex root framework to adapt to salt water drenching and wave activity. They are adjusted to the low oxygen states of waterlogged mud. The word mangrove is normally viewed as a compound of the Portuguese word mangue and the English word forest. The term mangrove frequently alludes to both the plants and the woodland network. To maintain a strategic distance from disarray, Macnae (1968) suggested that mangal ought to allude to the backwoods network while mangroves ought to allude to the individual plant species. Mangrove backwoods are once in a while called flowing timberlands, beach front forests, or maritime downpour wo odlands. Mangrove swamps are found in tropical and subtropical flowing territories. Territories where mangal happens incorporate estuaries and marine shorelines. Elevated tide acquires salt water, and when the tide leave, sun oriented vanishing of the seawater in the dirt prompts further increments in saltiness. The arrival of tide can flush out these dirts, taking them back to saltiness levels tantamount to that of seawater. At low tide, creatures are additionally presented to increments in temperature and parching, and are then cooled and overwhelmed by the tide. Therefore, for a plant to get by in this condition, it must endure expansive scopes of saltiness, temperature, and dampness, just as various other key natural factors consequently just a chosen few animal types make up the mangrove tree network. Around 110 species are viewed as mangroves, in the feeling of being a tree that develops in such a saline bog. Mangrove environments are assessed to cover 150 000 km2 around the world (Diop 1992, 1993). Mangroves can be found in more than 118 nations and regions in the tropical and subtropical locales of the world the biggest level of mangroves is found between the 5â ° N and 5â ° S scopes. Roughly 75% of universes mangroves are found in only 15 nations. Asia has the biggest sum (42%) of the universes mangroves, trailed by Africa (21%), North/Central America (15%), Oceania (12%) and South America (11%). Africa has around 35 000 km2 of mangrove biological system (Diop 1992, 1993), Nigeria has biggest mangrove region about 1mln ha. East Africa comprise of mangroves swamps along the Indian Ocean shoreline of East Africa in southern Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya and southern Somalia. Delta of Zambezi in Mozambique and Rufiji River in Tanzania are huge territory of mangroves which can reach out similarly as 50 km inland, just as littler territories along the coast. The mangroves of Bagamoyo District structure a pretty much constant band along the 100-km coastline from Saadani tonear Kitame salt works, and afterward from Ruvu Riverto Mpiji River. They spread a region of 5635 ha (Semesi, 1991).The primary mangrove stands are found along Wami River, 862 ha, Utondwe rivulet, 834 ha, Ruvu River, 2123 ha, and south of Bagamoyo to Mpiji River, 809ha. By 1989, obvious territories and salt panscovered 1639 ha (Semesi, 1991) and water in the springs secured 812ha. 1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Increment in populace prompts interruption of mangroves swamps which thus has incredible effect on marine condition since mangroves help in break maritime waves likewise give nursery zone and living space to some marine life form. Understanding which types of mangroves are defenseless against human dangers and for what reason is increasingly significant and supportive in foundation of preservation plant of specific species. 1.3 GENERAL OBJECTIVES Increment mindfulness among the individuals about significant of mangroves species and how different human exercises can occupy mangroves environment. 1.4 SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES To distinguish the most undermined mangroves species found in mbegani and mlingotini town To evaluate different human exercises that dangers mangroves species 1.5 HYPOTHESIS 1.5.1 Null theory. There is no mangroves species powerless against human dangers at mbegani and mlingotini town. 1.5.2 Alternative theory. There are mangroves species powerless against human dangers at mbegani and mlingotini town. 1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Discoveries in this investigation would improve mindfulness among the nearby network about mangroves species and their imperative to the neighborhood network. Additionally the discoveries of this examination would make mindfulness among individuals about different exercises performed by neighborhood network which dangers mangroves species. This examination will support common asset the board by neighborhood network and improve definition of town strategy about condition preservation. 2 LITERATURE REVIEW As indicated by Spalding 1997 mangroves woods vanish regular everywhere throughout the world. It was approximated 18.1 million km2 of mangroves woodland spread worldwide yet as indicated by FAO ongoing examination show that mangroves timberland is decay to 15 million km2. Creating nations comprise 90% of mangroves woodland becoming worldwide and the vast majority of them fundamentally jeopardized and about elimination in 26 nations. As indicated by duke 2007 the specialists of world mangroves give their viewâ that the endurance of mangroves in long haul is at extraordinary hazard because of fracture of environment and that the endure offered by the mangroves may prone to be completely lost inside 100 years. Numerous mangroves territories are feeling the squeeze of human particularly those develop along moist shielded tropical coastline. A side from man-made weight the mangroves likewise debased due natural pressure. Gauge show that worldwide misfortune every year is one million ha and some district in threats of complete breakdown (kathiresan and Bingham 2001). The vast majority cause decimation of mangroves either by purposely or not intentionally the estimation of mangroves. Livehood, biodiversity misfortune and fishery asset are diminished to mangroves misfortune, additionally decrease in populace of marine warm blooded animals like manatees and dugongs contributed much by loss of mangroves (k. kathiresan 2001). Rates at which mangroves misfortune is a lot higher contrasted with that of tropical backwoods and coral reef. 7million hectares of mangroves misfortune overall which is proportionate to two years loss of all timberland framework all around (k. kathiresan and Bingham 2001). Study show that man-caused exercises to contribute a lot to the annihilation of mangroves species which present noteworthy dangers instances of those exercises are; Urbanization; inhabitation of human to numerous zones cause coast mangroves to be cleared. Regions which experience this are Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Mumbai, Lagos, and free town. Horticulture; mangroves annihilated due to agribusiness exercises model areas of biggest delta on the planet among India and Bangladesh. As per kathiresan 2001 the mangrove zones are deforested and recovered with water to deplete the salt substance of the dirt and these regions are shielded from seawater interruption by developing banks. When the salt is filtered to adequate level, the land is developed either with paddy or coconut. Aquaculture rehearses; in a few nations aquaculture contribute in enormous scope decimation of mangroves. In 1968 and 1983, 237000 ha of mangroves were misfortune for lake development in Philippines which is half of national mangroves (Fernandez1978). As per kathiresan One significant issue related with the homesteads situated in mangrove territories is fermentation of lake waters that executes oceanic creatures. Cutting for lumber, fuel and charcoal; because of its higher calorific worth twing of mangroves are utilized for kindling. Wealthy in phenol empower mangroves wood to exceptionally oppose crumbling as is broadly utilized as lumber and their appropriate for chipboard and quality paper industry. Oil contamination; Oil or gas investigation, oil creation, and mishaps by huge oil big haulers cause critical harm to mangrove biological systems. To refer to a model, Nigeriaãšâ ¹s most extravagant oil wells are arranged near inshore where rich mangroves once existed. Thus oil big hauler mishaps in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Caribbean zones brought about oil spillage that seriously harms the beach front frameworks. Therefore, the whole mangrove biological system got influenced, causing defoliation of trees, mortality of all sessile and benthic life forms and sullying of many water fowls. When the mangrove woods is influenced by oil contamination, it will take quite a while of at any rate 10 years for recuperation of the timberland. 3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 3.1 STUDY AREA This work will be directed in pwani locale in Bagamoyo region at mbegani and mlingotini villages.Bagamoyo is one of the 6 areas of the Pwani Region. It is circumscribed toward the North by the Tanga Region, toward the West by the Morogoro Region, toward the East by the Indian Ocean and toward the South by the Kibaha District. As indicated by the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the number of inhabitants in the Bagamoyo District was 311,740. Mbegani and mlingotini towns found in zinga ward which its topographical directions are 6â ° 31 0 South, 38â ° 59 0 East. 3.2 STUDY MATERIAL Material which will be utilized in this investigation are: Note pad and pencil which will be utilized to take record. Downpour boots which will be utilized to shield legs from jutting mangroves root. Gloves which will be utilized for hands insurance. 3.3 DATA COLLECTION TECHNIQUES During this work information will be gathered by basic arranged surveys and through perception. 3.4 DATA ANALYSIS Assembled data from this examination will be broke down by Microsoft exceed expectations. When seeing one pace of-progress work, the amassed change over an interim and the clear indispensable are proportional, their qualities could be sure, negative or zero. Be that as it may, the region would never be negative since zone is consistently positive by definition. The aggregated change takes a gander at the entire zone of the capacity that is between the diagram and the flat axis. For occurrence, if f (x) is a pace of-progress work the region between f (x) and the x-hub speaks to the gathered change between x = an and x = b. In any case, the distinct vital places explicit cutoff points into the capacity and the region of a specific area can be resolved. For instance, if f (x) is a pace of-progress work it implies that: is the thing that you can think about the zone. The aggregation of progress in a specific capacity can be assessed by utilizing the region of the district between the pace of-progress bend and the flat axis.We likewise observe a comparable connection between the pace of-progress diagram and the amassed chart that we found in subordinates. A base in the aggregated diagram is brought about by the pace of-progress work traverse from positive to negative. A most extreme in the amassed diagram is a consequence of the pace of-progress work moving from negative to positive. When there is a most extreme or least in the pace of-progress chart you get an emphasis point in the aggregation diagram too. Likewise, we see that in the event that the pace of-progress work is negative, at that point the aggregated diagram is negative thus the collection chart is decreasing. However, when the pace of-progress chart is expanding, it doesn't influence whether the amassed chart is expanding or diminishing. There are a few issues in our book that exhibit this relationship. A particular model that I accept worked superbly showing it was: The chart in the figure speaks to the pace of progress of precipitation in Florida during an extreme tempest t hours after the downpour started falling: Part A: Use a matrix to tally boxes and gauge the aggregated zone from 1 to x for estimations of x dispersed 1 hour separated, beginning at 0 and completion at 6.Record the evaluations in a table. 0| 1| . 4| 2| . 65| 3| 1| 4| 1. 35| 5| 2| 6| 2. 4| Part B: Sketch the chart of the collection work dependent on the table qualities: Part C: Write the numerical documentation for the capacity portrayed to a limited extent b: Part D: Write a sentence of translation for the aggregation structure 0 to 6 hours: After 6 hours of precipitation in Florida, the measure of downpour ought to amass to a gauge of 2. 4 inches. A portion of the benefits of vote based system include: it go about as an instrument for guaranteeing achievement and effectiveness inside an association. It advances assists with planning various individuals to cooperate to accomplish a shared objectives. Moreover, administration assists with characterizing jobs that of every individual in an association ought to execute. For instance, a portion of the key jobs enlist include: money job, administrative jobs, human asset jobs, bookkeeping jobs, legitimate jobs, advertising jobs to make reference to simply yet a couple. Likewise, less time is expended in a bureaucratic structure in light of the fact that there are less meetings included. Administration furnishes the top level chiefs with a chance to practice more noteworthy control of association choice and techniques this further aides towards appropriate usage of asso ciation choices. Bureaucratic association structure will in general have an away from of order just as characterize lines of announcing. Different benefits of majority rules system might be seen from the administration point of view. For instance if there should arise an occurrence of a nation, administration assists with securing it against outer and inner animosity by means of foundation of focal insight units and military. In above association, it assists with continuing a solid economy through the foundation of Export-Import bank, protections just as insurance of open merchandise (Media and Ingram, 2013). Actually, organization will in general have some disservice. Among impediments of administration incorporate; it denies the members a chance to think freely and consequently, debilitating inventiveness and ingenuity. Organization will in general be so unthinking and inflexible; this demoralizes versatility to contemporary market, legitimate and modern changes. What's more, in a bureaucratic association, representative in lower levels of the board will in general be less happy with the choices made by top, the executives since they are not engaged with settling on those choices and thus they will in general need responsibility in actualizing those choices. Moreover, bureaucratic structures will in general be so much brought together instead of decentralized and consequently making it hard for individuals with a splendid plans to contribute. Bureaucratic association denies workers resolve because of tedium in the idea of errand embraced. This it is uncommon for workers to move from one occupation to the next. Moreover, administration may not be appropriate for a little association since it. In a bureaucratic association there is typically a part of objective removal as in light of the fact that as opposed to seeking after in general association destinations people will in general seek after their own objectives and intrigue (Media and Ingram, 2013). There a re different hypotheses of organization for instance, max Weber hypothesis, monopolistic model and the hypothesis of greedy. Marx Weber hypothesis of majority rule government involves five qualities that include: specialization, whereby, workers ought to be assigned that task that they can do splendidly. The subsequent trademark includes division of work; this infers work ought to be partitioned into littler and sensible assignment. The third trademark involves various leveled whereby, an association ought to have an away from of power where workers can answer to one senior. The fourth trademark involves normalization of working techniques. This includes clarifying representatives on how they are assume to execute the undertaking (Spark notes, 2013). People have utilized dams since early civilization, because 4,000 years back they became mindful that floods and droughtsaffected their prosperity thus they started to manufacture dams to protectthemselvesfrom these effects.1 The essential standards of dams despite everything apply today as theydidbefore; a dam must keep water from being passed. From that point forward, individuals havebeen proceeding to assemble and consummate these structures, not knowing the fullintensity of their reactions. The thwarting impacts of dams on humansandtheir condition vigorously exceed the useful ones. The paragraphsbelowwill demonstrate that the development and nearness of dams consistently has and willcontinue to leave obliterating impacts on the earth around them. Right off the bat, to comprehend the proposition individuals must realize what dams are. A damis abarrier worked over a water course to keep down or control water stream. Damsare delegated either capacity, redirection or confinement. As you couldprobablynotice from its name, stockpiling dams are made to gather or hold waterforperiods of time when there is an overflow flexibly. The water is then utilized whenthere is an absence of flexibly. For instance numerous little dams appropriate water in thespring, for use in the late spring dry months. Capacity dams likewise gracefully a watersupply, or an improved environment for fish and untamed life; they may store waterforhydroelectricity also. A redirection dam is an age of a normally built dam which isbuiltto give adequate water strain to driving water into trench, canalsorother frameworks. These dams, which are ordinarily shorter than capacity dams areused for water system improvements and for redirection the of water from astreamto a repository. Preoccupation dams are for the most part worked to diminish the impacts offloodsand to trap silt. Flood dams are intended to convey water which stream over thier crests, because of this they should be made of materials which don't disintegrate. Non-overflowdams are constructed not to be overtopped, and they may incorporate earth or rock intheir body. Frequently, two kinds of these dams are joined to shape a compositestructure comprising of for instance a flood solid gravity dam, thewaterthat floods into dams of earthfill development. A dams essential capacity is to trap water for water system. Dams help todecrease the seriousness of dry spells, increment rural creation, andcreatenew lands for farming use. Farmland, in any case, has its cost; riverbottomlands overflowed, ruining the richness of the dirt. This agriculturallandmay likewise bring about lost normal antiques. As of late in Tasmania wherehasbeen pressure from the administration to desert the Franklin venture whichwouldconsume up to 530 sq miles of land recorded on the UN World Heritageregister. Inthe land misfortunes entire communties must leave everything and start againelsewhere. The Jamess Bay Hydroelectric venture, hailed to be one of the mostambitious North American endeavor of dams was another case of thelandsthat might be lost. The 12.7 billion plan was to create 3 160 megawattsofelectricity daily, this force yield would be sufficient to serve a city of700,000! Probably the biggest issue with this dam, is that it would bebuilton a locale that implied a ton to 10 500 Cree and 7 000 Inuit. Grounds thattheirancestors have pursued and lived on for in excess of 5 000 years will befloodedalong with 90% of their catching lines.6 If this happened these individuals mustresettle, locate another lifestyle and face the pulverization of a piece oftheirheritage if this venture is affirmed. .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .postImageUrl , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .focused content region { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:hover , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:visited , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:active { border:0!important; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; change: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:active , .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:hover { darkness: 1; change: haziness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: relative; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: striking; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content adornment: underline; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt span: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: intense; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content improvement: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/basic arrow.png)no-rehash; position: outright; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uf6be047eeac42 1cce0577048bdba5d46 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uf6be047eeac421cce0577048bdba5d46:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: Essay On Telemachos Essay When a dam is being built, the waterway where it should bebuilton must be depleted. This executes a great part of the life and upsets the ecosystemandpeaceful being of all the oceanic and earthbound creatures around it. Atfisheries there is an enormous effect on the fish. The renowned Columbia Riversawits supply of salmon drop impressively after the dams were assembled, althoughthere were fish stepping stools fabricated. The salmon couldn't swim upstream whenitwas time for reproducing as they generally did. In any case, maybe it is the designs for the Amazon Basin in Brazil that shows ushowlarge the symptoms can be. In the city Surinam, in northern Brazil,LakeBrokopondo was made in 1864 overwhelming around 580 square miles of virginrainforest. Putrid gas called hydrogen sulfide was created as thetreesdecomposed. The turbine housings were assaulted by the acidic water and Thedecayof water permitted an opportunity for hyacinths to drift on a superficial level. This didnotallow the light to radiate through to the water onto the plants which thefishfeeded on. The plants couldn't perform photosynthesis, and the fishdiedalso in light of the fact that there was an absence of food. In the absence of sun the waterweedsgrewand take steps to make illnesses, for example, intestinal sickness, where the entire lakesecosystem would bite the dust out.8 Many little creatures and plants which were neverdiscoved and may have had high financial worth were to be lost for eternity. There stays an issue with stores which to date hasnt been solvedyet. A supply is a to store water, principally for hydroelectric force orirrigation. About 10 000 caribou suffocated while crossing the inflatedCaniapiscau River in September 1984, as a result of these reserviors. The heavyrainfall made enough water to overtop the structure and caused extraamounts of spillages in the supply. The water overwhelmed the stream whilethecaribou were truly submerged.9 The Colarado River, known as the most disputed, controlled andlesgislatedriver on the planet. Individuals who used to pontoon there now state it is very insafebecause of the fluctuating floods of water intended to accomodate when thepeopleuse most vitality. What was new water is presently being changed over to salty waterbecause of these repositories. The water remaining in the repository evaporateswhen not utilized and the remainder of the water turns out to be more salty.10 There is another hypothesis that dams are causing trem ors, when theselargestructures are put with the mass of the unnatural load of the lakenearit, this disturbs the Earths surface and is another safety measure where beforeitwas never knew about. Numerous individuals state that dams shield individuals from naturaldisasters, however there are some which it can strengthen. For example on the off chance that anEarthquake occurs, at that point, alongside breaks in the ground, buildingsfalling, there would likewise be a flood and huge bits of the messed up dam to copewith.11 Dams are hurting the condition that individuals live in. What was beinghailedas incredible achievements are presently giving indications of extraordinary consquence. Thepreservation of our condition is the way in to the conservation of individuals. Wecannot trade cash for the weakening of our own creatures, plants andland. The will be the ecological age and people must react by changingtheirways and taking a gander at the drawn out possibility rather than the present moment. Untilweas the clients and defenders of the land can do this, eventual fate of our greathumancivilization will keep on looking dismal. What is important is that you relate these quotes to the piece and what the reader will do after reading it is to relate them to his own life and how they will add value to it.If you want to talk about famous and great leaders, the same points can be applied. They are the best example of how a human being can lead and inspire others. It is an article that deals directly with the studies of grief, death and dying. Basically it is an article that tries to evaluate the feelings of people in the processes of dying. The piece of work was written in 1969 and it essentially borrowed a lot of information from numerous resources, interviews and seminars. The main message that is portrayed by the author here is that the people who are well should not overlook those who are in death beds: they should not be ignored, isolated or avoided. The writing gives the audience a step-by-step explanation of the different stages of grief that are experienced by different patient. In line with that, this report is going to evaluate the theme of death and grieving and some of the specific styles that have been written in this particular paper .To explain on the grief that is experienced by people who are almost dying, the author first takes a look at how different families are affected by different epidemics. In some families, death of infants is always very common in others the latter is not observed. Different incentives that have been brought about by technology and modern medicine have helped reduce the number of deaths that is caused by diseases and other epidemics (first paragraph). The latter is quite true because there are numerous medicines that have been developed for purposes of reducing the harm that is caused by diseases and epidemics. Some diseases such as chicken fox and swine flu and many more used to kill many people but of late the same has reduced. Currently it is only cancer and HIV/AIDS that are still proving to be a big challenge to the modern medicine and healthcare technologies. Basically, the importance of this paragraph is to provide the audience with a quick glimpse of the exact effect that is brought about by the new technology. However, technology cannot stop death as all living things are entitled to die at some point in life.As human being we are supposed to care for those people who are almost dying. Apparently, death brings a lot of problems to the family of deceased. And once a person has been diagnosed to be in the path of death, it is important for people to help the patient to withstand that death. In explanation to the fact by which people are grieved once they lose their loved ones the author uses a very creative form of imagery especially where she talks about, many a parent will remember remarks of their children such as, I will bury my doggy now and next spring when the flowers come up again, he will get up... (p. 91). The author also explains the grief that is experienced by the loved ones when she says that even for a couple that has been fighting, when one dies the other one will wail, cry and whine. From the write up, it appears that there are different stages of dying and death. After reading the whole text closely, the first step appears to be denial. This is the point where a dying person fails to accept that he or she will die especially after a doctor or a physician has diagnosed death as the final stage of an illness. Many people tend to start believing that the doctor was making a mistake and all was not true. it is quite clear that anger is the second step of the dying ... Bipolar, formerly called manic depression causes extreme mood swings that include emotional highs (mania) and lows (depression). (Mayo 1998) When you become depressed you may feel sad, vulnerable and anxious. When you experience mania you will become overly joyful or full of energy, making the crash back to depression that much harder. Falretââ¬â¢s discovery of the link between genetics and bipolar disorder is still believed today by modern physicians. The review of the selected literature will focus on characteristics of bipolar, the definition of bipolar and the educational or social problems dealing with bipolar disorder. BODY As previously stated, bipolar disorder has had a long history without much understanding. Bipolar is a disorder that includes recurring condition including mood swings between the highs of mania and the lows of depression. To best understand bipolar disorder it is detrimental to understand symptoms and characteristics of mania and depression. Mania is not a disorder with in itself, but a very important factor in bipolar disorder. The definition of a manic episode according to Psych Central (2014) is a period of at least a week where a person experiences an elevated, expansive or unusually irritable mood, as well as notably persistent goal oriented activity is present. What is needed for a good life? These questions are so important when it comes to humanââ¬â¢s view on power and control and how it should be used. In both stories, ââ¬ËAnimal Farmââ¬â¢ (written by George Orwell) and ââ¬ËThe Truman Showââ¬â¢ (directed by Peter Weir), the author and director explore these themes. Power and control, the good life, utopia. These three themes are key to living the full life. To have a utopia you must have a good life and to have a good life you must have your own power and your own control. One cannot have good life if there is no freedom involved in that life. If they do not have the option to choose their life will not be ââ¬Ëgoodââ¬â¢. In ââ¬ËThe Truman Showââ¬â¢, Weir shows the theme power and control with the whole aspect of Trumanââ¬â¢s life and how it is not owned by him. All the power over Trumanââ¬â¢s life is held in the hands of Kristof, the director of the show, which is Trumanââ¬â¢s life. He holds the power of what the traffic would be like, how Trumanââ¬â¢s boss would treat him, how many birthday presents he gets, how his wife treats him, things like that. But when Truman figures out this higher power in his life, he challenges that power and wants the power of his life to be in his own hands. But Truman also had enormous power of the whole show. Maybe not his life but he had power over the show. What if Truman decided to kill himself? What would Kristoff do then? Kristoff wouldnââ¬â¢t have power over Trumanââ¬â¢s life because Truman wouldnââ¬â¢t have a life. In this way Truman actually has a gigantic amount of power. Similarly ââ¬ËAnimal Farmââ¬â¢, Orwell suggest that power and control must be in the animal s own hands. But some of the animals want all the power and all the control for themselves. For example Napoleon the pig wants all the control and power over the farm. He even kills and tricks to get there. Before he had all the power and control, all the pigs were in charge. However, this ruling was highly unpopular among the White Americans who were still in favor of segregation. A series of protests began to follow soon after the desegregation orders, but the most significant protest would be captured in a series of snapshots. In the chilly morning of April 5, 1976, many white American teenagers boycotted their classes to go with their parents to protest against the desegregation ruling at the City Hall (Desmond). The White Americans, predominantly teenagers, wanted to forcibly segregate students of a different race on a separate bus. Answer: Introduction Logistics management is a part of the Supply Chain Management, dealing in the planning, implementation and control of activities related to the forward and back flow of goods and services, with other relevant information from the delivery point to the point of consumption for meeting the needs and demands of the customers (Agus Shukri Hajinoor, 2012). Abbott, the manufacturing company of Singapore, considered for preparing this report mainly deals in developing locally manufactured nutritional products for babies to have a healthy start, manufacturing pharmaceutical products for aged adults to stay fit and energetic and produce diagnostic tools for the mass healthcare system in Singapore. Through this organization, how the logistics management interface with the different functional areas like, production, accounting, finance and marketing will be discussed and thereby an analysis will be carried out to determine the effectiveness of order cycle and inventory management (Christopher,2016). Then, based on the analysis, the necessary recommendations would be made by applying the relevant concepts and theories related to logistics. Thus, the report would conclude that for any manufacturing organization to succeed, logistics will have a significant role to play because no matter how the different departments of an organization carry out their duties, they would yield the desired results only if the activities get coordinated with the proper delivery of goods to the right kind of customers in the appropriate time (Dekker et al., 2013) Discussion All the areas work in-tandem with the logistics department and thereby increase the effectiveness of the organization as a whole. Now the report discusses about the possible areas of interface between logistics and the different functional areas like production, marketing, finance and accounting of Abbott. Production: An organizations production department is mainly concerned about converting the inputs into finished products, through a series of processes. In case of Abbott, who specializes in manufacturing nutritional and pharmaceutical products, production process would only be successful if the distribution network is strong with the help of an effective logistics department (Dyckhoff, Lackes Reese, 2013). The goods that are produced, if they dont get delivered in the same form to the right customer segments in the right time, then the whole purpose of getting the goods produced, goes in vain. As a result of which, the company can potentially suffer heavy losses. Production would only be meaningful, when the goods get passed on to the customers in a swift and efficient manner, without any loss of time (Fernie Sparks, 2014). Marketing: Marketing is a combination of many activities starting from identifying the four key components, Product, Price, Place and Promotion and thereby put emphasis on these four aspects. They help cite out the features of the products, their utilities, why should customers purchase the products and how do the products fulfill the customers needs and demands (Grant, 2012). Then the prices are strategically kept low initially in order to attract the attention of the customers and persuade them to buy the products. This pricing method is known as penetration pricing. Gradually when the products start getting good response from the customers side, the company adopts the strategy of price skimming, thereby increasing the prices to substantial levels for covering up the initial loss (Gunasekaran Spalanzani, 2012). Next comes, selection of the appropriate place to distribute the products. This where the role of logistics comes into play. For a company like Abbott, who deals in manufacturing of p harmaceutical products and other goods related to health, getting the products distributed through an efficient logistics department is a must (Nam et al., 2013). This helps to uphold the image of the organization which leads to strengthening of relationships with business partners, suppliers and retailers. Last but not the least, the process of marketing is incomplete without promotion. Organizations carry out many promotional campaigns to spread awareness about different kinds of products and thus help people to understand their utilities and effectiveness (Rushton, Croucher Baker, 2014). Success of any manufacturing company is firmly dependent on an effective logistics department. Finance Finance department forms an integral part of any organization. They deal in maintaining the accounts of the employees, look after their salary details, take care of the cost of procurement of materials, take into account the delivery charges charged by the logistics provider (Schnsleben, 2016). Here the role of purchasing manager becomes extremely important as he is the one, who handles the cost which the company incurs by paying the required amount to the ones getting the goods delivered to the suppliers. Finance department and logistics do not necessarily go hand in hand. On one side, where Finance is recognized as a controlling function, which does not believe in blocking cash through credit and inventory and speed up the process of process of recovery (Rushton, Croucher Baker, 2014). On the other hand, logistics always try to expand the business by providing more credit to customers and hold inventory to serve customers better. In case of Abbott, the companys finance department would help to cut down the inventory expense by lowering the rate of interest for storing, thus saving significant amount for the company (Seuring Gold, 2013). The emphasis on creating opportunities for the organization to save puts Finance in the forefront. Financial performance of any organization depends upon the ability to manage cash in a profitable manner. For the manufacturing organization Abbott, who deals in pharmaceutical products, economical logistics would work to the advantage for them. Timely delivery is critical but on-time delivery with less cost is always an ideal situation for the company (Schnsleben, 2016). Accounting The accounting side for any organization takes into account the amount which a company spends on warehousing and transportation and tries to cash on the opportunities for reducing costs through discounts or by persuading the organization to hire less expensive vendors for logistics. The logistics manager for Abbott can look to reduce the cost of storing the pharmaceutical goods, so that they are in a better position to tackle emergency situations, where there is heavy demand for goods from the customers (Stadtler, 2015). Keeping the accounts of the company will help keep track of the proceedings and thus control the expenses. Abbott, who is into manufacturing of pharmaceutical products for people of all ages, demand would always be on the higher side. So the important aspect for the company will be not only to keep sufficient stock of goods but also ensure that the products get delivered to the right customers in the right moment to meet their needs and requirements. Effectiveness Of The Order Cycle And Inventory Management The order cycle maintained by Abbott is an efficient one. Right from receiving the orders to the processing of those orders by keeping in mind, the requirements of the customers, a smooth flow of activities take place, hence take care of the products getting delivered in right time and place. Storing of pharmaceutical products is critical and they are done by checking all the specifications and through following the guidelines (Wang, 2012). Keeping the products in right form by complying with rules and regulations help to meet up the demands and earn the trust of the customers. This is where the Economic Order Quantity gets implemented. EOQ refers to the maximum amount of goods required to be purchased in an instance so as to minimize the total ordering costs or for holding products in stock on an annual basis. Abbott makes sure that their EOQ is up to the mark, so that they can meet up the demands every single time. AlinIQ Inventory Management System combines innovative RFID technology and streamline the process consulting, which allow the labs to stay ahead of operational needs, help prevent shortages of critical items, lead to reduction of waste and time consumed for manual processes. AlinIQ Always On services help deliver predictive alerts to laboratories, thereby help to enable, detect and prevent the downtime for instruments, upto three days in advance. The AlinIQ Analyzer Management System provides hospitals and labs across the country, the ability to integrate different systems of softwares into a single standardized system for optimizing the processing time for samples, bring forth efficiency in the work flow and hence produce quality results (Wisner, Tan Leon, 2014). Another effective tool is AlinIQ Business Intelligence System helps in providing the tools for optimizing throughout and increase the capacities of the existing systems, so as to help labs absorb volume increases without a dding to the budget. Finally, the Inventory Management System of AlinIQ with a combination of RFID technology and a process consulting, which is streamlined allows labs to stay ahead of their operational requirements, thus helping them to keep sufficient stock of critical items and ensure reduction of waste. Recommendations The above analysis has shown how logistics management integrate with the different functional areas such as marketing, production, finance and accounting. The importance of this concept, which is a part of supply chain management can be understood from the fact that, without the existence of logistics, the functional aspects would not be able to deliver as per the expectations. Logistics is an integral part through which the planning takes shape. The following are some of the recommendations based on the analysis : a) To further enhance the effectiveness of logistics, Abbott can use the theory of strategic networks for enabling purposeful arrangements on a long-term basis. b) The activities which have comparative advantage should be kept internally while activities related to logistics should be contracted out to efficient outfit so that goods get transported in due time to the concerned persons, with low cost. c) Abbott, who deals in manufacturing pharmaceutical products could look to increase their stock further, so that they can always meet up the demands of the customers and provide them the essentials in appropriate times. d) The company can look to cut down their cost of manufacturing, leading to lower down the transporation cost, which in turn would help in fulfilling the customers demands by charging minimal price from them. Conclusion The report concludes that for an organization to run their operations in an effective and smooth manner, keeping up all the activities related to marketing, production, finance and accounting, in tune with the logistics is a necessity. Delivering the goods in due time to the right kind of customers to fulfill the customers needs and wants is imperative for any business to flourish and be profitable all through. The importance for any company, dealing with logistics, lies in delivering the goods and services, in their appropriate form so that the demands of the customers are met. For a company like Abbott, who deals in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, timely delivery of products is essential as people and hospitals require medicines for treatment purposes and even the slightest bit of delay can prove to be disastrous. Her voice boomed and the earth shook whenever she marched. She seemed like such an unapproachable and distant person. That was in the first year of High School. She was my Literature teacher then. During my first year in school, she struck terror in my heart. And everyone elses of course. The mere mention of her name made the most unruly classes silent. The birds stopped screeching. Even the earth felt still. The omniscent presence of rumours stating that she didnt like Junior High students was not much of a help. Nevertheless, the 2 years of Junior High passed by rather quickly. Soon, I was promoted to Senior High class. I had worked hard and gotten the subject combination that I wished for. Together with a bunch of old friends, I soon settled down in class comfortably. As fate would have it, she was fortunate enough to be my form teacher that year. I almost choked in alarm when I heard the news. This time round, however, I resolved not to cower in terror whenever she was near. I decided to face the fact that we were going to meet each other for the next 365 days. Instead of trying too hard to lick her boots, I tried my best to be my natural self in front of her. Still, I could not shake off the ice-cold image that she possessed in my heart. True, her corney jokes sometimes sent me into frolicking laughter, yet at other times these jokes simply fell flat the moment she uttered them. My lovely class, however was always ready to laugh at the right time and place of her amusing stories. Afterall, we would not want to run the risk of her temper erupting in front of us like Mount Saint Helens spewing molten rock and breathing fire. Alas, life was not to remain boring and nondescript. One day we recieved news that Miss Vicki was to leave Singapore for the Philippines where she would participate in a voluntary teaching programme for the poor. We did not know what to think actually. All of us cried at the airport. Back at school, we got another teacher for English lessons. But that is another story altogether . You will be scolded by your instructors and even reprimanded by the instructor in your future college assignments. Try not to fall into this trap and if you must use more than a dozen essay topics, do it as little as possible. Each topic should be written in one of two ways. You can do the first half of the essay in a format where you are actually utilizing a real life example of what you are addressing, or you can use format to help a reader see your point of view better. The second way to organize an essay, or how to make it look like a real essay, is to write it as if you were reading it aloud. Imagine yourself having a conversation with someone else. If the essay is well structured and you use examples that help the reader see your point of view, they will listen and you will get an A grade. Many college students think they should be using more essay topics. Don't be f ooled. The best way to structure an essay is by using the first technique and you will get an A grade, even if the subject matter is not very complex.Often college essay topics are very interesting but they are also very challenging. They require a tremendous amount of research. If you are reading them at the library or going over them in a textbook, your chances of getting an A grade are really slim. The second technique for writing more than one essay per subject is to provide a summary of the topics. Use the sources to support your points and then begin the rest of the essay from there. You can also try adding a few essays on your paper in between subjects. Many students forget thatan essay is about facts. It is not about a great story. You want your essay to be an effective outline of your argument and not to show off your ability to tell a story. When you're done with one essay, take the next subject and work on another different topic. You will do this again. You will eventually get tired of one topic and look for something different to write about. It does not matter if they are in elementary school or college students, they should have some interest in their topic. It may seem like the theme of the essay will be the most important aspect of writing the assignment, but remember that the students may not feel that they are being involved in the topic enough. In order to help make sure that your children essay topics are not boring, you may want to start by narrowing down your selections. Do you know what type of books have your child as a fan of? Do you know what type of magazines he has read? These questions may help to narrow down your choices. The next thing you want to do is write a few short paragraphs discussing what your child thinks about the topic. You may also want to provide some links to websites where he can go to learn more about the topic. If your child is into video games, then he may find it easier to relate the topic to video games. When you ask your child to explain why he feels a certain way, you may want to focus on his viewpoint and your observations about the world. However, you do not want to limit the length of your essay and just provide a lot of descriptive words. Provide interesting facts about the topic and provide some stories as well.Remember that the goal for your children's essay topics is to help them get an idea about the topic. They may not like the topic all that much but they may be interested in what they are reading. The teacher does not need to worry about them doing poorly if they just read the essay and understand it.Another thing you may want to remember is that children essay topics should be centered around the question. Try to think of a question that your child may ask himself as he reads the essay. For example, if your child finds himself asking why does that bear has one arm?The big reason for the bear having one arm is because i t is the dominant one, but it can also be used to give him protection from things that may hurt him if he were to get separated from it. In addition, if he was attacked by another bear, then he would still have the arm to defend himself. This is a very good illustration of how the essay topic should be answered.Once you have decided on the topic, it is important to set the stage for writing children's essay topics. This means that you will have to research the topic thoroughly and then write the essay in a way that will make it easy for your child to understand. He should see the information clearly, but he will not have to stop and work to figure out what you are saying. In this brief essay we will look at some of the previous criticisms of the last two centuries, and through them attempt to prove that the speaker of the poem is the same one throughout. The author of The Seafarer is unknown. Its manuscript is untitled and unique, and is thought to have been inscribed around 975 AD. It survives on four pages of the Exeter Anthology which was given to the Exeter Cathedral in England, by the Archbishop Leofric, who died in 1072 AD. The Seafarer is a poem about an Anglo-Saxon man who, having apparently been banished from his home, has taken to the sea. John Pope, one of the foremost critics of the poem, postulated, and it is now generally accepted, that it is composed of three parts. Part A1, covering lines 1 through 33a, is believed to be the story of an inexperienced young sailor who tells of his hardships at sea. Part A2, lines 33b to 64a or 66a, and part B, 64b or 66b through 124, is told by an eager young sailor who loves the sea. An epilogue is usually believed to be contained in lines 103 through 124 (Pope, 177). Jove Popes greatest critical adversary, Stanley Greenfield, believed that A1 is details a voyage the speaker was forced to undergo, and that the purpose of A2 is to emphasize the speakers choice to undertake a current journey (Greenfield, 107). The poem begins by telling us of how the young seafarer has often suffered times of hardship / and have experienced / bitter anxiety. He is journeying into a world of loneliness and a destiny away from his comitatus, his meadhall, and his lord. At times he despises his life at sea: Oppressed by cold my feet were bound by frost / In icy bonds, while worries simmered hot / About my heart, and hunger from within / Tore the sea-weary spirit... (The Seafarer, Line 8). At others, he celebrates it: ...Even now my heart / Journeys beyond its confines, and my thoughts / Over the sea, across the whale's domain, / Travel afar the regions of the earth, / And then come back to me with greed and longing. / The cuckoo cries, incites the eager breast / On to the whales roads irresistibly, / Over the wide expanses of the sea, (The Seafarer, Line 58). In Anglo-Saxon society a warrior believed in lof: he received glory by his valor in battle; his accomplishments in life. If his deeds were sufficiently notable his name would live on long after he died, granting him immortality. The Seafarer believes that Sickness, old age, the sword, each one of these/ May end the lives of doomed and transient men. / Therefore for every warrior the best / Memorial is the praise of living men (The Seafarer, Line 68). Halfway through the poem we see a drastic turn. Part A has mentioned almost nothing spiritual, only speaking of the hard life of a man who lives at sea. In the beginning of part B, in line 64b, however, he changes his thus far Anglo-Saxon tone to that of a pious Christian: Because the joys of God mean more to me / Than this dead transitory life on land. The conversion of Anglo-Saxon England was relatively quick. It went from a culture which had a comitatus conscience to one that was dominated by an individual, Christian conscience. Even during his musings on God, the speaker still laments The singing gull instead of mead in hall (The Seafarer, 23), the loss of dear friends, (The Seafarer, 15), and the lord he once had. At times it seems like the poet is attempting to reconcile the tensions between the two different cultures. In one of the first know criticisms of the poem, Max Rieger in 1869 postulated that the poem is of one writer and speaks of a dialogue between two individuals; an eager young sailor and an older more cautious one (Rieger, 313). He believed that the Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525304610288878919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3474524041291533718.post-25360564181523165322020-04-11T23:25:00.001-07:002020-04-11T23:25:12.197-07:00Essay Writing Services Is AffordableEssay Writing Services Is AffordableWhen it comes to writing essays, essay writing services can come in handy. This silver-gray metals share many common properties with other lanthanides but also displays some unique characteristics. Here is a look at some interesting thulium facts: Although the rare earth elements arent all that rare, they are so-named because they are difficult to extract from their ores and purify. Thulium actually is the least abundant of the rare earths.Thulium metal is soft enough that it can be cut with a knife. Like other rare earths, it is malleable and ductile.Thulium has a silvery appearance. It is fairly stable in air. It reacts slowly in water and more quickly in acids.Swedish chemist Per Teodor Cleve discovered thulium in 1879 from an analysis of the mineral erbia, a source of several rare earth elements.Thulium is named for the early name for Scandinavia- Thule. The principal source of thulium is the mineral monazite, which contains thulium at a concentration ofà about 20 parts per million.Thulium is not toxic, although it has no known biological function.Natural thulium consists of one stable isotope, Tm-169. 32 radioactive isotopes of thulium have been produced, with atomic masses ranging from 146 to 177.The most common oxidati on state of thulium is Tm3. This trivalent ion most commonly forms green compounds. When excited, Tm3 emits a strong blue fluorescence. One interesting fact is that this fluorescence, along with red from europium Eu3à and green from terbium Tb3, is used as security markers in Euro banknotes. The fluorescence appears when the notes are held under black or ultraviolet light. Because of its rarity and expense, there are not many uses for thulium and its compounds. However, it is used to dope YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet) lasers, in ceramic magnetic materials, and as a radiation source (after bombardment in a reactor) for portable x-ray equipment. On a piece of photographic paper, the use of sufficient light exposure pointed to the head of the models (with a hand on each side of the head) is not easy to create. Legal writing is different from other kind of writing, and in many ways, it can differ even more. Having studied and developed law in the academic and non-academic arenas, students in law schools are particularly equipped to make use of such opportunities and gain this type of expertise. The following are some of the common topics that people who have passed the bar exam and engaged in the practice of law can choose to write about. One of the civil litigation law essay topics that people can focus on is about what to do when a particular situation occurs. A lawyer can state that he or she has never seen anything like this before, or that the event occurred years ago, or that it occurred before the time the law was revised in the relevant area. Some lawyers can also state that this particular event can have a number of implications on the workings of the business world.Other civil litigation law essay topics include questions about when to take action, whether to make any changes to existing rules, and how to properly handle the current situation. For example, is there any point in dealing with a prospective client if the client has already bought his insurance and he has not signed his agreement yet? Other topics that can be explored include law in foreign countries, personal injury claims, and property disputes.Experts can also write about some oral argument, and how the lawyer will try to present all the relevant facts. These oral arguments will then be presented to the court for further deliberation and interpretation. Legal documents may also be discussed, including how to set up a defence strategy, and what procedures to follow after the hearing is over.A legal essay about criminal law can also be included in these civil litigation law essay topics. Law students are taug ht to talk about the benefits and disadvantages of each individual criminal offence and the legal issues surrounding it. A criminal law theme can also focus on issues involving the behaviour of certain individuals, the legal consequences of their actions, and issues pertaining to their treatment and sentencing. This can be similar to an essay or thesis topic that is a part of law school, although many writers will put a different spin on the topic, to give it an entirely different meaning and presentation. An example of this can be writing an essay on a case study that discusses the relationship between trading policy and market share. Such an essay can be about the impact of the stock market on an individual company's share price, or how a trader might want to deal with the market share loss in an investment strategy. One of the most popular topics for writers to work on is medical malpractice, which is defined as a legal claim involving medical treatment for the purpose of injuring a patient. A potential plaintiff might argue that he or she suffered physical and/or psychological damage from the negligence of a doctor, or that he or she could have been saved by more skilled healthcare professionals. He uses this to bring to the fore the fact that with love, it is possible to live in harmony despite poverty and hard economic times. Ali and his sister Zara cover up each otherââ¬â¢s weaknesses which is not a very common occurrence among siblings. In most instances, sibling rivalry dominates. Furthermore, the fact that the two go as far as sacrificing their studies and receiving punishments just to conceal a mistake done by another is commendable. To achieve this without selling the fact that it is a dramatization, the director develops very specific personality trait among his characters. Ali volunteers to go look for his sisterââ¬â¢s shoes; this is a show of love which very easily introduces the audience to the kind of affection and understanding among the two. While at the market place, he leaves the shoes unattended. This is not because he is preoccupie d with his own little games but because he saved a little penny and is therefore buying his little sister a cookie. With such a background, it becomes very realistic to understand that the two had shared a very cordial relationship. The director also achieves great success in depicting abject poverty in the movie. Aliââ¬â¢s family plays the role of a poverty stricken family. This is a role that they all play very effectively. An ailing mother, a jobless father, and semi dressed children bring this out very clearly. When Aliââ¬â¢s father later gets a gardening job, the rich and flamboyant northern Tehran brings out the difference clearly. The housing technique in this neighborhood clearly brings out the difference between the rich and the poor in this Islamic society. Furthermore, Ali accompanies his father to the town where he plays with a son to the rich family while his father is busy doing the gardening job. The director succeeds in bringing a clear cut difference between t he two children. In his tattered shirt and bare feet, Ali is distinct and a true representation of poverty. Alizera, the rich child, on the other hand is flamboyantly dressed and plays with restrain unlike Ali who is shocked at every new thing he discovers. Children are normally the true representation of the society; they offer the most basic level upon which a society may be judged and this is so because they rarely lie. Ali and Alizera do just this in depicting their class differences. Done in an Islamic society, the movie does not show it which a success. A number of stereotypes have been associated with the Islamic societies. Their very stringent cultural guidelines especially those demeaning the girl child are not depicted in the movie. Zara goes to school and is in deed a very dedicated student and a darling to most of her teachers. At school, there are quite a number of female teachers. This is unlike a typical Islamic society that most western movies and other literatures h ave succeeded in developing in the minds of many; a society in which a girl child is not valued. In a much concealed manner, the director communicates what an ideal Islamic society is. Aliââ¬â¢s family is a vey poor one which, if anything, should have married off their little pretty daughter to earn some financial support. However, unlike the expected, the family sends her to school and no form of negotiations that would either lead to an Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05525304610288878919noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3474524041291533718.post-79062865890723046702020-02-06T02:45:00.001-08:002020-02-06T02:45:03.435-08:00What Essay Writing Samples Examples Is - and What it Is NotWhat Essay Writing Samples Examples Is - and What it Is Not All you write on paper is taken into account. Introduction 1.1 Background The company that I have chosen to do my project on is a small book distribution company called Bookshop. Bookshop is a small company based in South London and was set up in early 2002. They have a small workforce of 4 people. Each person therefore has a large and important role to the company. Each worker is always hard pushed to meet deadlines for schools and social centres demanding books. Because that are a small company they cannot afford to have large computer staff to look after al their accounts. They are limited to the time that they can spend on different tasks. Each day they deal with a round à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½1000 worth of orders, but this might vary to as much as à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½4500 or as little as à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½500. The director of the company has put in a large lump sum as a loan to start off the company, which she hopes will trunk into profits, which she will later recoup. 1.2 Statement of the problem I have conducted an interview with the director of the company and we encountered the following problems. * Because the bookshop is new, there are many things that could go wrong and caused bankruptcy. There is the fact that the company has no real image and cannot conduct rely on customers. Therefore they need to profit maximise. They need all staff working to their full potential. They need no wastes of time with things that can be done automatically. * Also with the small amount of money available to them they had o make do with old computers, which ran old computer programs that are DOS based. * The problem that ABC Books as a company has is that it is limited to the workforce that it ca spend on different tasks. Therefore time is a major part of what is wrong. * If there were a way that was quicker than the current way to do it then the time taken by each person would be greatly reduced and there may be a chance that each person would have more time to do other jobs. For example two people handle all the accounts. * If there were an easier way then they might only need 1 person and therefore there would be an extra person left over to do other work. Because of a shortage of time that they spend on the accounts, orders dont get delivered and because it is a small business, it needs all the orders it can get and any a late order and schools will look to other suppliers. This was picked up on by Pat Horsefield (director) when a meeting was held to discuss the problems with the system. Mrs. Horsefield feels that: * with the introduction of a computer accounts system, * a system that can process customer orders faster and more accurately, * a reduction in the amount of paper generated by the system and feels that a centralised system could improve communication between staff, then the whole company will run more smoothly and then they would make more money and she would start going in to profit As the company is new they have not got enough capital to go out and but fleets of vans and cars, they have to rely on people own cars and transport of that of a delivery company which all costs money. Because of this they need to save money on expensive large especially designed programs by large specialist companys that produce such programs. 2. Investigation 2.1 The current system The current system that the company use is a spreadsheet package that was created 17 years ago and is therefore quite basic and not easy use for all the staff that are used to more modern forms of spreadsheets. At the moment as each school places an order, it has to go through a processing system that takes a long time to fill out. Input Processing Output Forename Surname Position School Address Home Phone Mobile Books ordered Total Price Paid Payment method This is the route that the current data takes. 2.2 Constraints of the Current system The format of the current accounting system is in DOS and therefore has no GUI that is useable to a user for formats like EXCEL. The software and hardware are old and need to be replaced. * That main one is that it is not like the new accounts systems such as EXCEL and SAGE Line 100. There are many problems encountered when external people wish to view the accounts i.e. Auditors. * Another problem is that when outside people wish to review the accounts, they are totally unfamiliar with the system and are not able to use it correctly. This is mainly because of the layout and the basic look of the interface. * There is one major problem with the actual system and that is that it does not automatically perform calculations. Therefore all calculations need to be done using a calculator. This is time consuming. If there were a way that the users could just put in numbers and the computer could automatically calculate the totals and the answers the user would have more time to do other things. * Due to the lack of complexity of the system, errors are often made. 3. Requirements of the new system 3.1 General objectives The general objectives that I hope to be able to achieve are: * To create an up-to-date system that can be easily used by the staff and new staff * To be based on a modern GUI that all users will understand * To make it self explanatory so that new users will be able to pick up the methods quickly. * It will need to be able to hold the companys accounts * There will be no need for passwords to any of the data, as no strict personal data is held on the computer 3.2 Specific objectives quantitative * Customer accounts should be found in less then 20 seconds * The user should be able to locate a page by using in the click of a button. * All users should be able to use the system to do accounts. * Customer Details should be able to be printed off at the click of a button. * There should be buttons to do all reasonable jobs (print/open/add) * All pages should have links back to all the other pages, with the click of a macro and should be clearly labelled. 4. The current systems 4.1 Hardware The hardware that is available to the users is a small LAN of 4 computers and a server. All the computers have a barcode scanner for scanning in book barcode numbers and ISBNs. The computers that I have available for me to use are a set of 5 networked PCs at my house of which one has a barcode scanner. At college there is a large number of networked PCs for pupils use. They are all networked so that the users can log on to his/her area. The hardware available to me is Specifications Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Connectors: Audio Line In (1/8 Mini) Ethernet RJ45 Twisted-Pair (XBaseT) IEEE 1394 4 pin Unpowered IEEE 1394 6 pin Powered Keyboard 6 pin mini-DIN (PS/2) Mouse 6 pin mini-DIN (PS/2) Parallel 25 pin D-shell (IEEE 1284A) USB Universal Serial Bus 2.0 Video 15 pin High-Density D-shell (VGA) Included Devices: Keyboard Mouse Barcode Scanner Chassis Style: Tower Input Devices: Keyboard Mouse Modem Speed: 1mb Cable *networked to all 5 Modem Type: Na Included Network Card: Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) normalized-Processor Speed: 2000 Video Integration: Motherboard Included Monitor: No Included Printer: No Sound Support: 3D Audio CD-ROM Read Speed: 40 X (CD,CD-R) CD Rewrite Speed: 12 X (CD,CD-R) CD Write Speed: 32 X (CD,CD-R) DVD-ROM Read Speed: 16 X (CD,CD-R) Hard Drive Capacity: 80 GB Included Drives: DVD/CD-RW Combo Floppy Drive Hard Drive Number of Hard Drives Included: 1 Bus Speed: 400 MHz Installed Memory: 512 MB Max System Memory: 1.5 kB Shared Video Memory: 32 MB Number of PCI Slots: 2 Processor Class: Intel Pentium 4 Processor Processor Speed: 2.0 GHz All 5 of the PCs that I have available to me at my house are all the same. (see above) 4.2 Software The software that the user has available is Microsoft Windows 95 professional edition with Office 95 and all relevant software for the barcode scanners and for the tele-book ordering. What I have available to use is Microsoft XP professional with Office 2000 which has excel, which Im using to create the new spreadsheet program 4.3 Users IT skills and knowledge I feel that the users ICT knowledge and skills are limited to what they can do. They are inexperienced in computer use and therefore they have not developed, because of this there will need to be a basic and informative and self-explanatory interface. I think that the interface will need to be bold and relevant to the tasks. The user manual will have basic information in using the system as well as a trouble shooting section. 1. Consideration of a possible solution There are many different packages that I could use to create an accounts program there is Sage Line100, which is widely used in large company businesses. There is also Microsoft own Excel, which is widely used, in smaller businesses. I am going to use excel to create the program because it is the most commonly available and is therefore the best choice to use. I think that it is also the easiest to use out of the two because many people use the program already and have a basic knowledge of the program already and how it works. It is also a lot clearer to see than the basic graphics of Line100. there is also the case that Excel is cheaper to buy than a copy of Sage Line100. at à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½250, Line100 is rather too expensive for a small company. I feel that with the cheaper, only à ¯Ã ¿Ã ½89.99 Excel they will have a better deal on their hands. Microsoft Excel clearly dominates the spreadsheet market. Not too long ago, Lotus 1-2-3 was considered the standard spreadsheet. Excel now holds that distinction, with an estimated 90% market share.
